Get Ready and Draw! What better place is there to explore and expand your artistic creativity than the Oklahoma City Zoo? Join Rebecca Kelly as she leads you on a journey where students of all ages learn to draw what they see. This series of art classes – usually the third Saturday of each month, will give you the opportunity to see these unique animals unlike you’ve seen them before. If you like to draw and you like the OKC Zoo, then this class is for you!


Ages:  7 and up

Location:  Begin in the Education Building

Time:  10:30 a.m. to noon

Fees:  Individual classes:  $20 (Only $5 for each additional immediate family member(s) )

Supplies: 

Pencil and paper will be provided, however, you are welcome to bring your own sketch supplies, if you prefer.  Optional: Students are encouraged to bring a digital camera to capture images of subject for drawing practice at home.


Classes have been broken down into segments for classroom and field study and are an estimate which may vary depending upon the weather. Each class will begin with an explanation of basic drawing concepts (15 minutes). The class will then walk to the exhibit containing the animal to be studied where students will sketch from life (40 minutes). Upon return to the classroom, focus will be placed upon completing the drawing (35 minutes).

GADZOOKS at the OKC Zoo. Students enjoyed trekking to study the grizzly bear, returning to the classroom to do an acrylic painting.
